Entitlement Framework
Meeting the Needs of the Entitlement Framework
With the introduction of the Entitlement Framework schools are finding it increasingly difficult to meet the varied and flexible curriculum. The over arching objective of the Entitlement Framework is to guarantee all post primary pupils aged 14 and above greater choice and flexibility. Giving learners access to a wide range of opportunities suited to their needs, aptitudes and interests, irrespective of where they live or the school they attend.
The Open College Network NI have a wide range of innovative qualifications that can be tailored to meet the needs of individual learners. Using NOCN qualifications, such as Step-Up, can support the development of a personalised curriculum for each learner regardless of their expected level of attainment. These qualifications offer a means of recording, communicating and celebrating achievement. They can:
- enhance self-esteem
- increase motivation
- communicate attainment and so help progression into further learning, training or employment.
The use of our bite-sized qualifications is already resulting in a distinct improvement in learners motivation and their engagement in school activities. Schools can build a flexible curriculum by delivering both skills based and vocational units. Allowing learners to identify their own personal interests and strengths for progression to further study. Each unit completed will be accredited and contribute towards a current or future qualification thus motivating them to continue learning.
